SMART-Navigation

We, the SMART-Navigation project office,
will ensure that all our efforts will provide safe traffic at sea,
will develop new ecological industrial options in the maritime field,
and will ultimately be a smart leader
in the e-Navigation technology global market.

SMART-Navigation Project Office Leader,Han Jin Lee

Our new challenge, the SMART-Navigation project, will enable us to enjoy the opportunity for yet more success on the sea.

Moreover, the SMART-Navigation project will encourage the Korean maritime industry to move forward into new industrial markets, helping the Korean industry to revive, and indeed to rise above in the global market.

In spite of constant efforts of the Korean government and international agencies in recent years, we have regretfully failed to stop marine accidents caused by human factors. These factors include careless mistakes and administrative burdens. Our new project for e-Navigation is one solution to solve the problem and to reduce accidents which result in extensive damage to property and loss of life. It is true that maritime information systems are lagging behind significantly, compared to land traffic information system. The aim of our SMART-Navigation project is to enhance quality and to create smart solutions for safe traffic at sea via the exchange of ship-to-ship and shore-to-ship information as a preventive measure.

The sea has always been essential to the Korean economy: from fishing which enriches our daily meals, to the ship building/shipping industry that has led the world’s economy since the 1960s. Through the SMART-Navigation project, we are convinced that not only will our precious lives and property be protected, but also that Korea will contribute to the e-Navigation industry in the global market. With our world leading technology in both the ICT and ship building/ocean plant/shipping industry, we already have a great reputation worldwide. Our new challenge, the SMART-Navigation project, will enable us to enjoy the opportunity for yet more success on the sea.

The SMART-Navigation project will enhance the maritime safety system by focusing on preventive measures, while still preparing for international regulations in advance. Moreover, the SMART-Navigation project will encourage the Korean maritime industry to move forward into new industrial markets, helping the Korean industry to revive, and indeed to contribute to the global market.

We, the SMART-Navigation project office, will ensure that all our efforts will provide safe traffic at sea, will develop new ecological industrial options in the maritime field, and will ultimately be a smart leader in the e-Navigation technology global market.
